The Miami men's hockey team's been on quite a tear recently in the CCHA. The #1 RedHawks went into the last weekend of January owners of a 16-game unbeaten streak; their last lost coming at the hands of Michigan State way back in October.

The Hawks took on the Broncos of Western Michigan January 29 and 30th in Steve Cady Arena. And for the seventh time this season they left the weekend with a sweep of their opponent. Friday night the Hawks won 4-1 over the Broncs, behind power play goals by Cameron Schilling and Carter Camper, and two even strength goals by Jarod Palmer and Chris Wideman, along with a 18 save effort by goalie Cody Reichard.

Saturday night the Hawks unleashed 49 shots on Western goalie Riley Gill, converting two successfully by Pat Cannone and Andy Miele and goalie Connor Knapp recorded 15 saves for a 2-1 win as the Brotherhood extended their conference unbeaten streak to 18 games.

“I think we played the way we wanted to play," said RedHawk Coach Enrico Blasi. "We, for the most part, dictated the way the game was gonna go. Our guys did a good job of making good decisions in all three zones and that’s the way we wanna play. You know we’re gonna be in tight games the rest of the way so it was good practice for us to face a hot goaltender. It’s gonna be a tough, a tough weekend against Lake Superior, they’re big, they’re strong, they can skate, they play a good brand of team defense, and so it’s gonna be a flat out war. Every position on the ice will be fought for and so you really have to be ready for a battle.”

Miami plays Lake Superior State at home February 5th and 6th.
