RedHawk Report sports anchor Katie Giovinale interviewing Dan Boyle.

(Oxford) One of Miami’s own, 1998 graduate Dan Boyle, will be representing Canada on their ice hockey team at the Winter Olympics. Boyle, Miami’s only Stanley Cup champion, will be skating with fellow countrymen Sidney Crosby and Rick Nash. I caught up with the San Jose Shark Saturday when he stopped by Oxford to receive his Miami Hall of Fame plaque.

Giovinale: “So Dan, you were in Miami’s Athletic Hall of Fame, you’re an All-American, you’re on an NHL team, where does being in the Olympics rank?”
Boyle: “It’s right up there. I think winning the cup is probably the most important thing to me, but I think winning a gold medal would be right there too. I’ve been a lucky guy and looking forward to it.”
Giovinale: “What do you think it’s going to be like to play on the same team as a bunch of guys you’re used to playing against?”
Boyle: “You know it’s different, certainly different, everybody’s playing for their own country, it’s a very short season so to speak it’s only six or seven games, not to mention the pressure that the Canadians are going to have – we have a lot of pressure on us but I welcome that.”
Giovinale: What do you miss the most about Miami?”
Boyle: “Just the family atmosphere of the players, I mean there’s nothing like it. You’re kind of together a lot, just miss that family atmosphere that you don’t have as much at the professional level.”
