Miami hockey team plays University of Nebraska, Omaha.

(Oxford)  Miami University's ice hockey team splt a weekend match up with the University of Nebraska-Omaha February 19th and 20th, dropping the top-ranked RedHawks to number two in the NCAA Collegiate Hockey standings.

Miami defeated the University of Nebraska-Omaha with a 6-2 victory Friday, Feb. 19th at Steve Cady Arena.  The Mavericks couldn’t keep up with the RedHawks in the second and third period.  Jarod Palmer and Brandon Smith scored the first two goals.  In the second period, Justin Vaive and Pat Cannone scored the third and fourth goals. Finally, Reilly Smith and Trent VogelHuber rounded out the night with two or more goals in the third period. 

Miami finalized its third CCHA title on Friday night with Ferris State’s loss to Lake Superior State.  But Miami’s eight game winning streak came to an end the next night when the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks beat Miami 4-2. 

Carter Camper scored Miami’s goal at the end of the first period.  Tommy Wingels started out the second period with a goal.  Mavericks were tough competitors with a goal in the first, second and two goals in the third period.  After the loss on Saturday, Miami dropped to No. 2 in the polls  Denver stole the spot after they swept Michigan Tech.
