In addition to the warm breeze and the sun shining, Oxford’s Farmer’s Market will be open next weekend for the last market of the winter season.
Although Oxford’s Farmer’s Market is typically open every third Saturday of the month, starting May 1st the market will be open every Saturday.
Oxford’s Farmer’s Market Uptown has been established for over six years and features fresh produce and meat from local farmers.
The market typically runs from 9:30a.m. to 11:30a.m. yet it was pushed back an extra half an hour to accommodate Miami students and to get a younger crowd to attend.
This year’s market will have over 17 local vendors who will be selling a variety of items including beeswax candles and pieces of fine art.
Deborah Bowels, the owner of Artistry Farms, is a dedicated vendor to the market and sells various types of goat cheeses and organic soaps.
“The sooner that product can get to the market. The fresher it is, the healthier it is for people. So it’s not just an issue of supporting your local market and supporting your local economy. It’s also an issue of health, that’s the biggest thing,” said Bowels.
Larry Slocum, the market manager has seen a dramatic increase in students attending the market and stressed the importance of buying local.
“People like yourselves are really becoming concerned about the environment and the fact that we can't spend all that fossil fuels to bring that stuff thousands of miles when we can get it right here,” said Slocum.
If you plan on going organic then this market is perfect for you, for its organically grown animals and natural fruits and vegetables.
